Cytoskeletal composition of attaching and effacing lesions associated with enteropathogenic Escherichia coli adherence to HeLa cells.
The cytoskeletal lesions associated with enteropathogenic Escherichia coli adhering to cultured HeLa epithelial cells were examined by immunofluorescence microscopy. The microfilament-associated proteins actin, alpha-actinin, talin, and ezrin were localized with adherent enteropathogenic E. coli, whereas tropomyosin, keratin and vimentin (intermediate filaments), tubulin (microtubules), and vin...
متن کاملAdherence factors in atypical enteropathogenic Escherichia coli strains expressing the localized adherence-like pattern in HEp-2 cells.
Although atypical enteropathogenic Escherichia coli (aEPEC) strains are frequently implicated in childhood diarrhea in developing countries, not much is known about their adherence properties. The phenotypic and genotypic characterization of 29 aEPEC strains expressing the localized adherence-like pattern points toward the involvement of E. coli common pilus (ECP), intimins, and other known E. ...
متن کاملOligonucleotide probe for detection of the enteropathogenic Escherichia coli (EPEC) adherence factor of localized adherent EPEC.
The enteropathogenic Escherichia coli adherence factor (EAF) probe detects isolates of enteropathogenic E. coli that exhibit localized adherence to HEp-2 cells. A 21-base oligonucleotide probe was constructed on the basis of a sequence from within the 1-kb EAF probe and was shown to have greater sensitivity and specificity than the EAF fragment probe in detecting localized adherent E. coli.
متن کاملMulticopy plasmids are clustered and localized in Escherichia coli.
We localized the multicopy plasmid RK2 in Escherichia coli and found that the number of fluorescent foci observed in each cell was substantially less than the copy number of the plasmid, suggesting that many copies of RK2 are grouped into a few multiplasmid clusters. In minimal glucose media, the majority of cells had one or two foci, with a single focus localized near midcell, and two foci nea...
متن کاملInhibition of enteropathogenic Escherichia coli (EPEC) adherence to HEp-2 cells by bovine colostrum and milk.
BACKGROUND enteropathogenic Escherichia coli (EPEC) is the main etiological agent of infantile diarrhea in Brazil and other developing countries. Human milk IgA protects newborn intestinal mucosa by inhibiting bacterial adhesion to epithelial cells and this effect is shown by in vitro assays of EPEC adhesion to HEp-2 cultured cells. Bovine milk, if effective in promoting this protection, could ...
